Mark Nicholas Milano

Few people have done more to preserve the history and legacy of Kukla, Fran and Ollie than Mark Milano. Through his passion, vision, and tireless dedication, Mark ensured that one of television's most beloved classics would be rediscovered, preserved, and enjoyed by generations to come.
Mark launched the Kuklapolitan website (kukla.tv) in June 1998 after discovering that there was virtually no meaningful online information about the Peabody and Emmy Award-winning program, particularly its original 1947—1957 television run. What began as a personal labor of love soon became the definitive online destination for Kuklapolitan fans around the world.
Over the years, Mark painstakingly assembled an extraordinary collection of articles, rare photographs, historic documents, memorabilia, audio recordings, video clips, and interviews with many of the people who helped bring the beloved characters to life. His meticulous research and unwavering commitment transformed kukla.tv into an invaluable historical archive and fostered a vibrant community of devoted fans.

  
In October 2010, the Burr Tillstrom Copyright Trust officially recognized kukla.tv as the official Kukla, Fran and Ollie website, a testament to the quality and integrity of Mark's work.
Working closely with the Trust, Mark then helped produce three DVD collections featuring some of the earliest surviving episodes of the series. These programs were painstakingly restored from fragile, deteriorating kinescopes, preserving television history that otherwise might have been lost forever.  
Mark's greatest preservation achievement came in 2024, when he completed the enormous undertaking of transferring and making available more than 700 original kinescopes for free public viewing on the official Kukla, Fran and Ollie YouTube channel. Thanks to his dedication, one of the most comprehensive collections of classic children's television is now freely accessible to viewers everywhere.
This page stands as a tribute to Mark's remarkable legacy and to the countless hours of care, scholarship, and devotion he invested in preserving the world of Burr Tillstrom and the Kuklapolitans. Because of Mark's work, this treasured chapter of television history will continue to educate, entertain, and inspire future generations.

 
Sadly, Mark passed away on January 3, 2026, following complications from cancer. (Mark's obituary here.) While many in the Kuklapolitan community knew him for his extraordinary preservation work, Mark was also internationally respected as a pioneering AIDS activist and educator whose advocacy helped save millions of lives. At a memorial service held in New York City on May 3, 2026, he was posthumously honored with Health GAP's Alan Berkman Global Health Justice Award, which was permanently renamed the Mark Milano Global Health Justice Award in recognition of his profound humanitarian contributions.

  
During the memorial service, family and friends celebrated Mark's lifelong passion for Kukla, Fran and Ollie with a special tribute video highlighting his preservation work, while a display of his cherished Kuklapolitan memorabilia offered a touching reminder of the joy and enthusiasm he brought to everything he did.  
Today, Mark's work lives on through Your Next Chapter (YNC), an all-volunteer not-for-profit organization entrusted by his family to preserve, protect, and continue sharing the remarkable legacy that Mark created. YNC will carry forward the work that meant so much to Mark, ensuring that the magic of Burr Tillstrom, the KFO TV show, and all of the Kuklapolitans will continue to delight audiences for generations to come.
